Instrument Rating Instructor (IRI) Course

COURSE OVERVIEW

Castle Air Academy offers two Instrument Rating Instructor (IRI) (H) courses, depending on the student’s entry point:

  • Flight Instructor to Instrument Rating Instructor (FI to IRI H)
  • Type Rating Instructor to Instrument Rating Instructor (TRI to IRI H)

The course is delivered in three phases:

  • Phase 1 – Teaching and Learning (25 hours) (if not already completed as part of an FI or TRI course)
  • Phase 2 – Theoretical Knowledge (10 hours)
  • Phase 3 – Flight Training (8 hours of simulator training and 2 hours of flight instruction)

TRI to IRI (H) COURSE CONTENT

An applicant for an IRI (H) rating shall have:

  • Completed 200 hours of flight time under IFR, of which up to 50 hours may be instrument ground time in a flight simulator (FSTD) or FNPT II.
  • Completed an approved IRI (H) course.
  • Met the requirements for the issue of a TRI (H) certificate.
  • Passed the appropriate skill test.
  • Course duration: 5 days

FI TO IRI (H) COURSE CONTENT

An applicant for an IRI (H) rating shall have:

  • Completed 500 hours of flight time under IFR, of which at least 250 hours must be in helicopters.
  • Successfully completed an approved course at an FTO, comprising theoretical knowledge instruction and at least 10 hours of flight instruction on a helicopter, flight simulator, or FNPT II.
  • Passed a skill test.
  • Course duration: 8-10 days
