Applicants must be at least 18 years old before they can begin training and hold a pilot licence. There is no upper age limit, provided you meet the required medical and licensing standards.

We ask that students are available on a full-time basis throughout their scheduled training blocks to ensure continuity and progression. However, we understand that unexpected circumstances can arise, and where possible we will work with you to accommodate any necessary breaks in your training.
Yes. Castle Air Academy is a registered ELCAS learning provider, allowing eligible service leavers to use Enhanced Learning Credits towards approved training. Contact our team or ELCAS directly for further information.

Yes. An initial deposit is required to secure your place on your chosen course. Our team will explain the deposit amount and payment schedule during the booking process.
Students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation during training. If you’re relocating, we’re happy to recommend local accommodation options and point you towards useful resources.

The theoretical training covers all of the core subjects required for commercial helicopter pilot training, including:
- Air Law
- Operational Procedures
- Aircraft General Knowledge (Airframe, Systems, Powerplant and Instruments)
- Principles of Flight
- Human Performance and Limitations
- Meteorology
- Flight Planning and Performance
- Navigation
- General Navigation
- Communications (VFR & IFR)
- Instrumentation
- Radio Navigation
- Mass and Balance
Students gain experience on industry-recognised training aircraft, including:
- Robinson R22 for single-engine helicopter training
- Leonardo AW109E for multi-engine helicopter training
Entry requirements vary depending on the course, but applicants will generally need to:
- Be at least 18 years old at the start of training
- Hold a valid UK Class 1 Flight Crew Medical Certificate
- Demonstrate English language proficiency to ICAO Level 5 or above
- Successfully complete the AON screening process, where applicable
- Be able to commit to full-time training for the duration of the course
Training duration depends on the course you choose. Full-time commercial pilot programmes are typically completed within 12 months, although some sponsored or integrated programmes may have different timescales.
Upon successfully completing your course and meeting all licensing requirements, you’ll hold the qualifications needed to pursue a career as a professional helicopter pilot. Career opportunities may include offshore operations, emergency services, utility work, charter operations, flight instruction, or other commercial helicopter roles, depending on your qualifications and experience.
